The stops
1Bell Buckle
Bell Buckle, Bedford County
Bell Buckle grew up around the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad in 1852 and became the biggest livestock shipping point between the two cities; its downtown has been on the National Register since 1976. The chamber counts about 600 residents and a street of antique shops, and the RC Cola and MoonPie Festival fills it on the third Saturday of June.
The shops open at 10, as the loop arrives. The coffee shop on Railroad Square is open from 7:30 for anyone who leaves Franklin early.

2Lynchburg's square
Lynchburg, Moore County
The Moore County Old Jail, built in 1893 and a jail until 1990, is now the county's museum, and the Lynchburg Hardware & General Store, which the distillery owns, has kept its opening-day promise of All Goods Worth Price Charged for more than 110 years. Jack Daniel is buried in the town cemetery.
Park once, at the free lot by the distillery's visitor center, and take its shuttle or walk to the square: lunch at Barrel House BBQ, the hardware store, and the Old Jail Museum, which closes at 3.
- Saturday
- The square is open streets. Barrel House BBQ is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, the Lynchburg Hardware & General Store 10 to 5, and the Moore County Old Jail Museum 11 to 3, Tuesday to Saturday, March through December.
- Admission

- Booking
- Miss Mary Bobo's family-style lunch, at 11 and 1, is $29.95 and should be booked.
Visit Lynchburg
3Jack Daniel Distillery
Lynchburg, Moore County
Jack Daniel founded the distillery in 1866, and it sits in the seat of Moore County, which the distillery says has been dry since Prohibition; the White Rabbit Bottle Shop in its visitor center sells the whiskey all the same. Parking is free, with a shuttle to the square.
The standard tour runs an hour and 50 minutes; book one that starts around 1:15. Backpacks, camera bags and strollers are not allowed on the tours.
- Saturday
- The visitor center, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Saturday's standard tours start from 9:30 until 4:30 in October and until 4 from November.
- Admission
- The Jack Daniel Distillery Tour, an hour and 50 minutes with six samples for those 21 and over, is $35, tax and fees included. Smaller tours run $55 to $160.
- Booking
- Book online, at least three hours ahead. On October 20 the standard tour had places on every Saturday through December 19; the small Bonded and Barrel tours had sold out on several.
Tours and tickets
Before you go
Book the distillery tour a few days ahead, and Miss Mary Bobo's, if you would rather lunch there, at least the day before: its online booking closes twelve hours ahead and its 1 o'clock seating was nearly full on three fall Saturdays when we looked.
The Old Jail Museum closes for January and February; the rest of the loop runs all year. Christmas in Lynchburg, on December 5, and Bell Buckle's Old Fashioned Christmas Saturdays in December bring the crowds.
How we know
The timetable is worked out from the route and the time at each stop, and checked against every stop's Saturday hours and the sunset for every Saturday in the twelve months after the hours were read. The drive times are a router's, with no traffic: leave room.
