Bluegrass Along the Harpeth 2027
Friday, July 23, and Saturday, July 24, 2027, at Historic Downtown Franklin.
- What it is
- A two-day old-time and bluegrass festival on the Public Square, held in honor of Sam and Kirk McGee, Williamson County farm boys who became early Grand Ole Opry stars. Friday night is a free concert; Saturday is a contest in 15 categories for musicians and dancers, with cash prizes.
- When it runs
- In 2026 Friday’s concert ran from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday’s contests from 9 a.m., with registration at 8, to 10 p.m.; the festival’s FAQ says Saturday starts at 10. The 2027 dates, July 23 and 24, are announced.
- Where to park
- The organizers point visitors to the free downtown garages on 4th Avenue South, across from Puckett’s, and on 2nd Avenue South at Main Street. Bring a lawn chair; alcohol is not allowed.
- What it costs
- Free, paid for by sponsors. Food and craft vendors sell on site; contestants pay a registration fee on the day.
- The history
- The festival’s own site says it started in 1991 and moved around Franklin before settling on the Square; Tommy Jackson is its founder and chairman, and the proceeds benefit the Williamson County Cultural Arts Commission. The Williamson Herald called 2026’s the 35th.
